Cairns

Cairns
After Brisbane, see previous blog, we moved on to Cairns. We had a bit of luck with accommodation, we rented an absolutely beautiful apartment with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, lounge, kitchen etc. Unfortunately, from an accommodation point of view, it all went downhill after that.
We do not have any photos from the Great Barrier Reef but we went snorkelling and Alison saw a reef shark. It swam away from her. Garry wonders why! Anyway, snorkelling on the reef was fantastic and an experience of a lifetime. Pat's not much of a snorkeller but she did come out with us and took a trip on a glass bottom boat.

This is Pat teaching an Aborigine how to throw a boomerang. He got it after a few goes.

An Aborigine teaching us how make fire with just two sticks. We all got up on stage with the Abo's and did some traditional singing and dancing. This time they did not switch off the music when Garry sang.

We dragged Pat round "Uncle Brian's Tour". This involved lots of walking but well worth the effort with loads of waterfalls, boulders and rivers (more of this to follow).

Still on Uncle Brian's tour, Pat standing inside a fig tree which will be over 500 years old.

More amazing trees.

We took Pat into a crystal cave network. It is in fact man made, but was full of beautiful crystals from all around the world. Later, we took her down some real caves. At the end of this tour, Pat was the only one who could answer the quiz questions. For this, she won a prize of semi precious gemstones.

More waterfalls. To give you some scale, you may just make out a swimmer on the far right hand side.
That's all from Cairns.
Sydney and Melbourne to follow
